This is just a quick 'n dirty page for now...

My PlayByWeb Stuff

Game Archives

    • Dream's End - A post-apocalyptic adventure reminiscent of the Mad Max movies, especially The Road Warrior. Uses my own RPG rules set, loosely based on GURPS and The Window, but specifically designed for the slow pace of play-by-post games and players who don't like to deal with technical details.

      • Rick 2: Rick and Mayliki (NPC) shortly after the bomb was dropped.
      • Naomi 2: Naomi's encounter with a road warrior gang.
      • Wastelands: Naomi's adventures after she leaves the road warrior gang's home base.
      • Bombed-out Apartments: A year after "Rick 2," Rick decides to leave Mayliki.

    • Mayliki in Delusions - This was from a game I was a player in, set in a Deep Space Nine-like space station. (Mayliki is one of my characters.)

    • Mayliki and Thomkay - Another thread from the above DS9 game.

    • Goldfoot Machine - This was the very first game I admined on PBW. It used the GURPS rules and was a traditional adventure, complete with pre-made map and room descriptions. I found that traditional table-top modules don't translate well in the play-by-post environment because it's too hard to keep a player's interest during slow parts or when they have to deal with a rule system.

My Modded PlayByWeb Site

Help me test it. Play games on the live test site!

Based on the PBW v.2.1 code distributed under the GNU free license. Contains all my mods, including:

  • Secret messages in posts: Just put ";secret2[recipient's name]:[message here]" (no quotes or brackets). This must start on a line by itself, and the secret message is ended where the ENTER key is pressed. (Mostly finished, but a few minor details still undone. Untested.)

  • Game Watch List: A list of all games you're in on the home page with link and new post indicator.

  • Off-site Portraits: When giving a portrait to a character, you now have the option to put in the url of an image anywhere on the Internet. (Mostly finished, but doesn't check for size.)

  • RSS: Use any newsreader to get a news feed for a game's threads. If you configure your newsreader to update frequently, you can be notified of new posts almost instantly for any thread you desire (and not ones you don't!). Has a link to the thread so you can pop over easily. (Mostly finished. Makes a news feed for all threads now, but in the future, private threads shouldn't have a feed.) Use the link at the bottom of the thread to access the RSS file. (I will, of course, turn this into a standard orange RSS link soon.)

  • Integrated die rolls: No need for a separate thread for die rolls! Now they integrate directly into the post. (About half-finished. Roll details don't show up yet, for example.) See the thread in Kanon's Game for examples or make your own.

  • Stats: Admin can define character stats quickly and easily. This project is still in its infancy. Use the link to the Stat Control Panel from a game's main page to create stat categories and the stats themselves, but at this point the interface to actually assign the stats to a character isn't made, though I've done it manually for one character in the test game called Kanon's Game.

Imagine, you could have info like a character's money or hit points show up below their portrait. I also plan to make it so that a thread itself can have stats. I needed this badly in one game where our characters were playing Texas Hold 'Em poker. It was hard to keep track of everyone's cards, the cards showing on the table, money in the pot, who's turn it was to bet, etc. Stats would take care of all this!

  • Maps: This project is still REALLY in its infancy, but you can see my initial experiments that proved to me that it is indeed do-able (and not too hard either!). Eventually you should be able to draw lines, boxes, and other map elements on-the-fly right on the site. You could then plot an icon for each character on the map, which can be quickly and easily moved around by the admin.

  • Notes Fix: This is the only official PBW mod on this page. See: http://www.playbyweb.co/uk/Problems.html for details, but one of the main changes was that I added the ability to reply to other characters not just the original recipients of a note.)

NOTE: Most of the above mods are not official, just done for fun. While I hope the PBW board decides to incorporate them into their site, when, if ever, this will happen is up to them. Until then, feel free to enjoy them on my test site.
