This thread is for our "second wave"
of players: Hideko, Relina, Onara, and Aryion. Haldrus, character not yet
ready, can join later. Hideko, Relina, Onara, and Aryion, you have just finished some other adventure. Those inclined were engaged in the customary debauchery that always seems to follow--spending way too much money enjoying the delights of civilization. Others were perhaps nearby enjoying the peace of the woodlands, when a messenger brought word from some of your friends inviting you to join them on a hunt for a magical gem. The four of you quickly hurried to catch up. You followed the trail and managed to nearly catch up with the party just after they entered the hole in the mountain. (Read the main adventure thread for info about this setting if interested.) You heard the cacophony of battle ahead, and rushed to aid your embattled comrades, just in time to see them barely manage to escape into a door pursued by a large group of orcs. Surprising the orcs from behind as they were trying to pry open the door, you made quick work of them. You now stand in front of this door, apparently still jammed closed from the other side. |

I look around for any way to open the door when I don't see a way I try knocking and calling out to our friends. Hey guys it's me Hideko. Open the door. I wait for a response and if I don't get one I go in using my ninja skills.

"Could it be locked?" Aryion asks, inspecting the door closely. If he doesn't see a lock, he simply steps back, quieting down and waiting for somebody else to do something.

Since no one answered I inspect the door. No it looks to be jammed closed from the other side. I push agaisnt the door testing the strength and relize its not opening. Okay I'll be back in a little bit I'm going to try and find another way in. As I move off I fade into the shadows right there next to the building to keep myself from being seen while I look around for another way in. For someone like me.

Hideko, you make a quick but thorough search but come up empty. Apparently the dwarves who built this mountain fortress made only one entrance on purpose--solid defense. If there is another hidden entrance, you'd have to search the entire mountain! No time for that. Katie and the rest of her party might be in trouble!

I come back to the rest of the group. There's no other way in. Apparently they went for the strong defense here. I start looking around the door looking for a way to unjam the door with the tools and weapons we have among us.

She sits in a branch in a nearby tree away from the others. She really didn't like the idea of going undergound. She was an elf, not some tunnel digging dwarf. Still, she agreed to help, and she always, well, tired to at least, keep her word. She knew she would just get in the way of the others trying to open the door, so she waited. She wondered how long they would be underground, how long untill she could see the night stars, the sunset and sunrise, the feel of the cool night air through her hair. She sat in the tree, soaking up all the beauty of nature she could before she had to dive into the depths of the earth.

Hearing that the door was jammed, and not locked, Aryion stepped back, allowing the others access if they wanted. About to say something, he cuts himself off short, opting for silence instead...

Onara taps her foot impatiently. "This
isn't going to end well," she mutters while shaking her head. The archer strokes her bow, an involuntary reflex. "I don't suppose anyone thinks they're strong enough to force it?" |

Hideko, your search comes up empty.
Man, you're 0-2! Better see if your shoulder's strong enough before these
lovely ladies think you're worthless. Nothing worse than when beautiful
women start to think a man is worthless! ;-) Luckily for you, it looks like the orcs had already been bashing the door a bit themselves. There's a tiny amount of play in it. |

After my careful once over of the door I speak up. Okay there is no other way in other than breaking the door down. Hey Aryion how bout lending me your shoulder? I set myself to kick the door as he shoulder rams it so that we can combine our power and just break the door down.

"Sure thing," Aryion answers, muttering, "As if it'll help..." and he backs up, counting with Hideko, throwing himself at the door full force, using his shoulder as a bit of a battering ram...

As Aryion hits the door with his shoulder I kick it as hard as I can. I don't need to fit through the door I just need to be able to remove the block. Of course when I kick what looks like one kick to everyone else is actually about 2-3 just delivered very fast and very hard. Okay hold up let me check something. I move up to the door and push against it judging the give in the door by trying to work my arm through to try and remove what's jamming it closed.

Surprisingly, all it took was one blow
to knock the door open enough to squeeze an arm through. Why is that?
Those with siege experience know that usually barred doors take many
repeated attempts with a battering ram. True, this is a much smaller,
interior door, but still, it was too easy. A cold wind and musty smell issues forth from the opening. Hideko, you're about to reach in but hear some faint scratching sounds that remind you of the... the... undead! |

I stop reaching in and jerk back away from the door. Okay forget reaching in there we have undead problems in there. Any of you know how to repell them or do we have to do this the hard way? I look around at the others waiting for their opinions. I also keep a close eye on the door.

** She shuttered at the sound of that word. She had once seen a zombie that had been let loose in the forest.A creature who was brought back from the dead as a mindless beast, not even deserving to exist and longer. She lowered herself out of the tree and stood next to Hideko, looking at the hole, almost backing up as the smell hit her. She winced and looked at the the men. "You two knock the rest of the door away and we'll shoot anything that may try to attack you." she said, giving Onara a nod, as she pulled out her bow, and placed and arrow on the string, waiting for the door to open before pulling back. |

Onara's voice dropped to a loud whisper. She couldn't help it; after all who wants something like that to hear them? "Do you really think it'll come out into the light? Don't those things like to stay in their...ummm...homes?" She didn't look like she relished the thought of going in after them.

At Relina's suggestion, Aryion holds
up his hands, backing away from the door, "Whoa whoa whoa," he protests, "If the undead are the first things we see when we crash this door down, which was far too easy, by the way, then WHY is it that we are so eager to go inside!?" He pulls his sword, ready to attack just in case something exits the hole. "I don't see why we would want to find anything that starts with the undead, but if you guys are set on it..." he trails off, looking at the rest of the group hopefully. |

“Sorry I’m late guys” a familiar voice calls from behind the group. “I got…tied up.” Haldrus clears his throat and suddenly notices that his shirt is untucked, he hastily thrusts it back under the waist of his pants. “What seems to be the problem?” He looks around at everyone on their guard and the door. “Do we have a door that needs opening?” Haldrus looks around at the busted up room and the orc corpses strewn about. Spying an orcish axe he grips it and pulls it up with both hands. “I think this oughta do the trick. Wouldn’t you say?” Haldrus hefts the heavy axe and swings it about a few times and then moves toward the door planning on busting through it with the newfound weapon.

Ok, this should be funny. Allow me to
control your characters just a little bit for the sake of
humor. Haldrus comes, sees you all mulling about in front of the door and acts all macho, grabbing an axe to bust it open. "Should we tell him about the noises?" you all think to yourselves, "Maybe it's better this way!?!" Unknowingly, Haldrus goes up to the door with long manly strides. BANG! BANG! After only two powerful blows the is open wide enough for a man to comfortably move through. Nothing emerges, and all is quiet save for the odd but distant rustling sounds that continue unabated, apparently undisturbed. "Hey! What are these noises?" Haldrus asks. |
